If you need to gain introductory skills quickly, you've come to the right place. The following sessions are available as online recordings that you can watch at your own pace. Sessions were presented by MMTA members and recorded either at past conferences or from one of MMTA's online series.

These recordings are a great option to help you get up to speed on the fundamental skills you need as a treasury professional. Each session is between 1.5 and 1.75 hours long and includes the video and presentation/resource materials. Sessions are only $30 for MMTA members; you can select any (or all) of the following to watch online at your own pace.   • The Life of a Treasurer: This panel discussion will present important dates and reports that every treasurer (and deputy, and assistant) should know. Information will be tailored to include cities, townships, villages and counties.   • Settlement and Tax Roll Tips and Tricks: This panel discussion will illustrate the importance of good relationships between county and local units to accomplish treasury tasks.   • Settlement: How to Set Yourself Up for Success: While every county has their own specifics on how to provide settlement information, how you maintain your records throughout the year is truly how you will have a successful settlement experience.   • Property Tax Collection - The Rest of the Story: Local units do all the heavy lifting to get property taxes collected correctly while providing top notch service to your residents. But what happens at the county level after tax collection deadlines? This presentation shows the full picture of property tax collection, including items you should be aware of and potential pitfalls. Even more important, learn how the entire process works so you can be better informed and have great answers when your residents ask questions about their property and taxes.   • Property Tax Adjustments: Learn more about property tax adjustments, where they come from, the different types of adjustments, and how you can accurately process them. The session addresses value changes, PRE changes, Veteran’s Exemptions, Poverty Exemptions, and personal property changes and how you can deal with these changes and proven methods to track adjustments. Session includes a demonstration on making adjustments in BS&A as well as letter templates you can use to communicate property tax adjustments. Presenter:  Mike Pettigrew, City of Ann Arbor.   • Property Tax Delinquent Collections: Learn how to process taxes once they become delinquent. We'll provide ideas and processes on what you can do to collect delinquent taxes and what to do if the taxes seem to be uncollectable. Presenter: Laurie Sheldon, City of Kentwood.   • Introduction to Special Captures Toolkit: This popular topic can be confusing for treasurers. Not everyone has special captures and they don’t all look the same. This topic will shed light on what tax increment financing is, how it affects you, and what to do when your community decides to do one.   • Protect Your Office from the Unknown: This panel discussion presents the importance of internal controls for protecting your office from both internal and external threats and how to mitigate threats by being prepared with cross training, succession planning and controlling access.
